Back from LA. Debra and I rang in the New Year there with a few girlfriends and some male ghosts of the past and present. Debra lived in LA for four years prior to moving to NYC and I have been a fan of the town ever since its debut on 90210. A dream situation would be to be bi-coastal between LA and NY. Since we aren’t quite there yet, we voluntarily partake in bi-coastal dating. We love the LA boys as much as the NY ones, though there is a rather deep disparity amongst them. Here’s the good, the bad and the truth broken down on both:

Almost any boy you meet in LA is somehow connected to the “industry”: He’s either an actor slash model (and not the other way around), an agent at CAA, a “soon to be” agent, or the spawn of someone famous and therefore working in the family business. They do brunch at the Beverly Hills hotel and go to dinner three nights a week at Ago.

Boys in NY work in a variety of professions and are usually self-made or on the path. They’re from Long Island and still go home to their mom’s house for Shabbat dinner.

An LA boy will LNBT (late night booty text) you at 9pm
A NY boy will LNBT you at 2am

LA boys will text you things like: “Heey girl, I think you need to see me”
NY boys will text you things like: “I was just talking to your best friend. She thinks we should get married.”

LA boys are pretty to look at
NY boys are fun to talk to

LA guys talk about wining and dining you and never follow-through
NY guys wine and dine you

LA boys are more fly off the seat of their pants IE. “Extra ticket to the Lakers, you in?”
NY boys make plans far in advance and follow-through every step of the way

LA boys prefer to text instead of call when making plans … and are therefore more likely to flake
NY boys are more likely to call you upon receipt of your number

LA boys take their time when going after the girl they want
NY boys go after what they want and get it

Both coasts are playgrounds for ah-mazing, hot, smart, successful, and funny single boys. If you were to ask us which side has the most talent, we wouldn’t be able to choose. But if you were to ask us how to Flirtext your way into the heart of one of these boys, well, that’s a different story. Our one piece of advice: Know your audience and play up to it.

Oh, and one more thing. If you’re in LA, don’t Flirtext and drive. It’s the law.

Flirtext Responsibly.
